Boston Bruins scrape past Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3

Boston Bruins Winger Mark Recchi scored a dramatic last gasp winner off a power play in the dying seconds of the final period to give his team a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.

The away side got off to an absolutely brilliant start, when they opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the first quarter. The goal came from a power play, after a brilliant move from the Bruins. Mark Recchi passed the puck to Michael Ryder, who
calmly slid it past the keeper.
Boston continued to pile the pressure on the home team, but didn’t commit all of their men into the attacks. The home side slowly settled into the game, and with some encouragement from the fans, managed to threaten the Boston goal. It
didn’t take them long to draw level, as Steven Stamkos’s scored from a tip in shot in the eighth minute. The period ended with the scores level at 1-1 with the Tampa Bay Lightning making 12 goal attempts, while the Boston Bruins made 10 goal attempts.
The second period was not as strong as the first in terms of goal attempts. Both teams waited for opportunities to come their way. The first goal of the period was scored by the Bruins, who took the lead through Steven Kampfer’s goal. However Tampa
Bay Lightning managed to level the scores once again with a goal from Vincent Lecavalier in the 15th minute. There weren’t any more chances in the period though. The period ended with the scores level at 2-2 with the Tampa Bay Lightning making
nine goal attempts compared to the Boston Bruins four goal attempts.
The final period saw the away side come out the stronger of the two teams. They took the lead in the third minute through Brad Marchand’s goal. Like in the previous periods, Tampa Bay Lightning leveled the scores once again. The goal was
scored in the 11th minute through a spectacular backhand shot from Martin St. Louis. The match looked to be heading into overtime, when the Boston Bruins scored with just 20 seconds left to play. Mark Recchi stunned the home crowd as the
Boston Bruins won the match 4-3. Recchi was named the star selection of the match with a goal and an assist.
