Boston Bruins seeking revenge against Buffalo Sabres – NHL Preview
Earlier this month, Buffalo Sabres crushed Boston Bruins in a National Hockey League (NHL) game.
This time both these teams are once again scheduled to play against each other and the venue is also the same. Will Bruins be successful in taking revenge is yet to be seen.
The matchup will take place on Friday, February 24, 2012, at First Niagara Center, Buffalo, New York.
Here is a look at both the teams.
Sabres
Sabres have done well of late to brighten their chances for the playoffs, but at the same time they have remained on and off, which is why they are still away from the safe zone.
Their most noticeable achievement this month is the three-game winning streak in which they defeated New York Islanders (4-3 after shootout), Boston Bruins (6-0) and Dallas Stars (3-2).
However, they went on to lose four straight after that streak.
At present, they are on a two-game winning streak with the recent victories coming against Pittsburgh Penguins (6-2) and New York Islanders (2-1).
Sabres are also well aware of their inconsistent approach and want to be better than that.
After the victory against Islanders, Sabres’ Derek Roy said:
"We're happy, but at the same time, we've got to get some more points. We've got to keep winning hockey games. We can't win one, lose one anymore. We've got to put a streak together. We've got to gain some ground right now."
Sabres are ranked at 12th spot in the Eastern Conference with 59 points after 60 games.
Bruins
Although Bruins are well placed in the Eastern Conference at second spot after 58 games and 74 points, their performance this month is far from being commendable.
They have played 10 games in February and have lost six of them.
At present, they are on a six-game road trip where they have won two out of four games.
The recent victory came against St. Louis Blues.
Bruins got a good start against Blues as the former scored twice early in the first period. However, Blues levelled the score within the same period, but Bruins scored one more to take the lead.
After the goalless second period, Bruins managed another goal in the final to seal the victory.
Bruins’ winger, Brad Marchand, said after the game:
"This was a big win for us after being shut out in the last game. We had a couple of losses in a row and we wanted to make sure we followed up with a good game. If we didn't win, we wanted to get back to playing our type of hockey. We had a great game tonight."
Predictions
Sabres might win.
The sum of total goals scored by both the teams might be six or more.
If Bruins win, the winning difference will be two or more goals.
