Boston Bruins sign both Second-Round 2010 NHL Entry Draft Picks Jared Knight, Ryan Spooner

It took Jared Knight and Ryan Spooner, both second-round draft picks of the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft to signed on to an entry-level contract with Boston Bruins, but they finally did nearly a year later, as they equally inked a deal on
Wednesday, July 20.
Boston general manager, Peter Chiarelli, also described the late signing as a reason for them to firstly prove to the Eastern Conference team that they are capable of being part of one of the top franchises in the league.
“It’s easier to sign these guys right away and get the signings out of the way, but we wanted them to work for it”, Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said after the team made it official. “They’re both very good players, very good prospects, but we want them to
work for it and that’s why we waited this long”.
Ryan Spooner, a 19-year-old centre player from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, had been selected as the 45th overall and played the past two seasons 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 with Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). During those two
season, Spooner participated in 109 games and registered an impressive total of 112 points (49 goals, 63 assists).
He was ecstatic at finally been given the opportunity to join Boston.
“It feels good”, Spooner said after learning about the announcement. “(Signing) takes some of the pressure off, but it’s a lot more serious now. (The Bruins) expect a lot more from you, but that’s all a part of being a player. I’m looking forward to camp
and making the team”.
Knight, also a 19-year-old centre, was himself relieved at Boston’s decision to bring him on board and termed it his biggest priority after being drafted.
The Battle Creek, Missouri, United States native, was selected 32nd overall, a few numbers ahead of Spooner. He participated in two straight seasons with Bruins affiliate in the OHL, London Knights, and contributed 87 points (51 goals, 36 assists)
in a sum of 130 games.
Both players will be turning 20 in January and have more than enough time to prove themselves in the major league.
