Boston Bruins stay perfect with 2-1 shootout win over Columbus Blue Jackets -NHL Match Update
The Boston Bruins remaining perfect in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season ever since they started the month of November, as they won their seventh straight matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets, 2-1, in a shootout, Thursday night,
November 17, 2011, at the sold-out TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
Columbus on the other hand, was handed down their second straight loss, which brings their record in the past six contests to 1-5, having won only one against the Winnipeg Jets.
Tuukka Rask was in net for the Bruins tonight while Tim Thomas is on a rest break, being outshot by, 31-27, compared to his counterpart in the Columbus net, Curtis Sanford; the Boston goalie had a near shutout by blocking 30 of those shots.
"Tuukka was the guy that kept us in", Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "You can look at the shot clock but they also shot a lot of pucks from far away. Nonetheless, I thought Tuukka made big saves when we needed him to and kept us in there and allowed us
to win in the shootout. How he handled himself in the shootout, I thought, was very good. He's a goaltender that I think has been working extremely hard in practice, doing extra and everything else. It's nice to see him back to .500, and hopefully he keeps
moving on the positive side".
As both teams remained scoreless in the first 20 minutes, Columbus’, Derek MacKenzie, potted his third of the season 2:49 into the second period on their first power play opportunity as Boston’s, Gregory Campbell, was booked 50 seconds in for high-sticking.
Adam McQuaid put Boston right back in the match with a breakaway goal unassisted nearly two minutes later for his first of the season, which was the last point of the contest, forcing overtime and ultimately a shootout.
Rich Peverley scored the first goal in the shootout, but the Blue Jackets climbed right back as Mark Letestu potted the equaliser.
David Krejci made the deciding shot as the Blue Jackets failed on their third and final attempt.
The Blue Jackets have the next road game against the Nashville Predators on Saturday while the Bruins start their three-game road trip, beginning with the New York Islanders the same day.
