Boston Bruins stay perfect with ninth straight over Montral Canadiens 1-0 -NHL Match Update
Boston continued to amaze by recording the longest winning streak in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season thus far by getting their ninth straight win as the Bruins shutout their arch-rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, 1-0, Monday night,
November 21, 2011, at the sold-out Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Tim Thomas might have been outshot, 33-18, compared to his counterpart in the Montreal net, Carey Price, but it certainly did not stop him from registering his second straight shutout and third of the season by blocking all the pucks that came at him.
Keeping their focus on one game at a time, the Bruins think that it is the only way they can keep winning in the future.
"We're not focusing on it," said Thomas, after recording his 29th career shutout. "We've done a good job of settling it down to one game at a time and staying in the here and now. It's mentioned every once in a while to keep it going, but that's
it. I think that's the key."
Andrew Ference got his second of the season and the only goal of the night with less than five minutes to play in the first period, which ultimately gave the Boston Bruins the boost they needed to take the game.
Boston gave three straight penalties in the next and final 40 minutes of game play, but Montreal was flabbergasted at not being able to pot a single goal in that duration after taking numerous shots on Thomas.
"I have felt good the last couple of days," Thomas said. "I don't know why I'm just seeing the play well and reading what the other team's options are. Sometimes as a goalie, you get stuck in a puck focus so when a guy makes a pass you get caught on your
heels.”
The Boston Bruins are looking to keep November perfect as they visit the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday before returning home for a home game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Montreal on the other hand, will be starting off their two-game road trip against the Carolina Hurricanes on the same day, followed by the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.
