Boston Bruins tie the Eastern Conference Finals at 1-1, defeating Tampa Bay Lightning by 6-5 in Game 2
A night when a player scores the game winning goal and has scored another goal along with an important assist, he is bound to end up with the star of the game award for his crucial three points. Michael Ryder was the player for Boston Bruins on Tuesday night,
May 17th, at TD Garden in Game 2 against Tampa Bay Lightning. Bruins won by 6-5 to level the Eastern Conference Finals’ series at 1-1.
Even though Michael Ryder scored two goals of which one was the game winning goal, he was unable to grab the top spot, finishing as the third best star in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals that the Boston Bruins won 6-5 against Tampa Bay Lightning
at home.
Michael didn’t end up as the star of the game because of the fact that Tyler Seguin was absolutely superb in the game, scoring two goals with two assists and ending the game with 4 points to his name.
Seguin’s performance not only silenced his critics, but also gave an impressive reply to the management that kept him out, questioning his relative inexperience.
Moreover, his performance made him the first teenager to score a total of four points in a playoff game since Trevor Linden for the Vancouver Canucks in 1989.
Ryder, Seguin and centre, Chris Kelly, were superb during the second period of the game as they came up with strong and effective offensive play. The three players combined to score a total of four goals with David Krejci scoring the fifth to put the Bruins
in a comfortable position by the end of the second period.
Bruins was trailing 2-1 at the end of the first period but with the brilliant second period performance, it was able to overpower Lighting to lead 6-3 prior to the final period. Lightning scored twice in the final period in their struggle to make a comeback
but that was all they could manage. Bruins won the game 6-5 to level the series at 1-1 with Lightning.
The win was very important for the Bruins as they surely didn’t want to go down 2-0 in the series, especially while playing at the TD Garden. The series being levelled makes it all the more exciting.
Bruins’ goalkeeper, Tim Thomas, came up with a decent performance during the first two periods but in the final period he had a few slipups. He allowed two goals that were considered to be conceded due to reluctance of the players to come back to defend.
Nevertheless, Bruins won an important game and will be hoping to defend well when Game 3 kicks off at the St. Pete Times Arena in Tampa Bay on Thursday, May 19th.
