Boston Bruins wins 2-1 against the Tampa Lightning Lightning to establish lead ahead of the Lightning
The first game of Thursday which was also the decider for the second spot in the Eastern Conference was hosted by the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden as they were up against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The second position in the Eastern Conference was on offer for the winner of the game which made the game all the more exciting.
The game was evenly matched by the two teams during the course of the entire game but it was a case of one team being the more productive of the other.
In this case, it was the Bruins who outscored the Lightning 2-1 to win the game. Milan Lucic of the Bruins was named the star of the game for scoring the winning goal.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them making shots on goal and displaying some excellent passing during the opening part of the game. However, the attacks intensified and got dangerous with the passage of time.
There were several occasions where it looked as if a goal would be scored but this didn’t happen. The defence of both teams also came up with a decent performance as they cut down attacks regularly.
The lack of grabbing goals remained throughout the period as the 20 minutes of play ended goalless with the scores deadlocked on 0-0. During the course of the period, the Bruins made 8 goal attempts while the Lightning made 10 goal attempts.
The second period started off with both teams changing their strategies to attacking. This resulted in the teams coming across scoring chances as soon as the period began. The Lightning were first to benefit from this as they scored in the fifth minute to
get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Eric Brewer from a powerful strike. The joy was short-lived as the Bruins managed to come up with some a splendid piece of play which saw them scoring in the 7th minute through Steven Kampfer from another powerful strike
to level the scores.
The period saw both teams making couple of more goal attempts but they failed to find the back of the net. The scores were level on 1-1 with both teams making 13 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The stage was all set for a tight and entertaining final period. The defence dominated the final third of the game which saw them cutting down attacks and doing this easily.
However, Milan Lucic scored for the Bruins in the 17th minute through a well placed flick shot to get into the lead.
The period was short of goal attempts which resulted in no further goals as the period and game ended with the Bruins winning the game 2-1 in the end.
During the final period, the Lightning made 5 goal attempts while the Bruins made 7 shots on goal.
