Boston Celtics' Mickael Pietrus likely to miss the whole regular season - NBA Update
Mickael Pietrus, the Boston Celtics swing man, had a gruesome fall on March 26th that resulted into a grade III concussion. As of now, it seems that his return in regular season in unlikely.
He suffered the scary injury after landing on his tail bone in the 2nd quarter of match against Philadelphia 76ers. He was vomiting and spitting blood while being carted off the court.
Greens’ fans and management were all shaken by the sight, as the coach Doc Rivers pictured the scene.
It looked awful," he said. "I saw it immediately -- I didn't think he hit his head, I wasn't sure, but I just saw his neck snap, so you knew that was bad. Obviously, he was throwing up on the floor, so that wasn't very good either."
Fortunately for the Greens, the fall didn’t inflict any life endangering threat and Boston nation took a sigh of relief after witnessing him on Sunday when Pietrus visited his teammates at the TD Garden for the matchup with Miami
Heat. This was his first public appearance since his injury.
Doc Rivers was relieved to see him.
“It’s just great to see him. I don’t think anybody has seen him since the injury. It will be great to have him in the locker room. He’s texting me a lot now, which is great, and that’s terrific that he’s able to do that. Again,
we haven’t even started the (concussion) tests. He’s going to be out a while.”
However he is still suffering from the reverberations of the injury like light sensitivity and his schedule for return remains unclear. One thing that is clear for now is that Celtics will have to play without him for the rest
of regular season.
He witnessed the 91-72 victory over Heat wearing shades and a hood to help his sensitivity of light.
Although the team insisted that he should leave early but he hung around till the end of game. His stay was welcomed by the team, that has by far been the most unfortunate as far as the injuries are concerned this season.
Paul Pierce was please to see Pietrus around;
"It was great, just having him back around the guys”.
Mickael will need a clean chit from league’s neurologist as the league has strict policies regarding player health especially the ones suffering from concussions.
The 30 year old has averaged 6.8 points, 2.9 rebounds in 37 games while he started 5 of those playing an average of 21.3 minutes per game in this season.
Boston are currently on the 4th spot in Eastern Conference and a spot in the playoff is almost a done deal. The only question that remains is about the seeding. The win against Miami was their fifth in a row and if they
contiunue the upward trend, a top 4 finish in the East in guarenteed.
With Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox done for the season due to heart surgeries, Jermaine O’Neal also out due to surgery on the injured wrist and Ray Allen still recovering from an injured ankle, Pietrus has added to the woes of the
short handed C's. We will have to see how they manage without their key players for the playoff race.
