Boston Celtics – A team to watch out next NBA season – Part 1
The Boston Celtics are one of the most decorated franchises in the history of the league, with a record 17 NBA championships to their name.
They were revitalized in at the start of the 2007 NBA season, when Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were added to the roster alongside Paul Pierce to form the “Big Three”, the first big three of the modern era.
Those three players changed the fortunes of the Celtics franchise, going on to win the 2008 NBA championships, and have been regulars at the playoffs ever since. For the last two seasons though, the franchise seems to be at a loss
in configuring LeBron James and his Miami Heat. In the 2009-10 season, Miami dismantled the C’s in the Eastern Conference semis and last season, they lost out in the Conference Finals despite dragging Heat to seven epic games.
The franchise had been in the spotlight for the past few seasons, with many saying that Garnett and Allen were too old now for the Celtics to have a real chance of making a deep run in the playoffs. The Celtics however have been
surprising their critics somehow.
Even this year, the core three of the Celtics played extended minutes throughout the season, and the Celtics still managed to reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
However, when Ray Allen decided to move to the Miami Heat in the summer, many wrote the Celtics off for the next few years to come, reason being that Garnett and Pierce are too old to make a considerable impact in the game and
the Celtics do not have the right ingredients any more.
But an offseason that saw new signings and trades has once again given life to the Celtics chances.
They signed Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Jason Terry to a three year contract in the summer. Terry, like Allen, is a three point specialist and one of the best 6th men in the league at the moment. He also brings extensive
playoff experience to the table, and has one NBA championship under his belt as well, which he won with the Dallas Mavericks in the 2010-2011 NBA season.
Terry is a 13 year veteran in the league, who averaged 15.1 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds last season. He shot 43 percent from the field and 37.8 percent from three point range. His addition will go a long way in filling
the absence of Allen and give the Celtics a strong bench presence.
