Boston Celtics: An overview of their roster’s plans of playing overseas during the NBA lockout: Pt-1
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has lockout its players over labour unrest in the organisation with the Players Association while this work stoppage is affecting many players in the league who are forced to play overseas.
Some of the players have already signed overseas contracts with different international basketball clubs while some are still planning to make a move forward. No one knows as how long this lockout will prevail in the league and when both the parties will agree
to sign on new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The new CBA agreement is the main reason why the NBA has locked its players. The NBA owners and the Players Association remained unable to reach on a mutual understanding over the new CBA agreement. The new CBA contract was unacceptable
to all the players and the Association itself as it carried many clauses which were not acceptable to the Players Association especially the hard salary cap on the NBA players heated the debate and eventually led to lockout.
However, now the situation is very different in the league as many professional basketball players are going abroad for better playing environment. Some have already taken this initiative while some are still ambiguous on the ongoing
situation where no one knows how this lockout will affect all the league players. And those who have not yet decided on their future are now looking desperate to make a move ahead.
The Boston Celtics as a team is also feeling the effects of this lockout. Their entire roster is planning excessively for their upcoming future. Many players are not in under contract for the next season, while those who are not
in under contract have a clear advantage to make a move forward and get a decent overseas contract during the NBA lockout. Their free agency will also help them to play for some other team internationally. On the other hand, many Celtics players are still
in contract with the Celtics and if decided to go overseas will likely to comeback whenever the next season will start.
Rajon Rondo:
The Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo is one of the players who are under contract and according to some sources he has mentioned in several reports as he has not decided yet for playing overseas yet. May be he is waiting for the
league owners and the Players Association to come on a mutual understanding over the new CBA agreement which will automatically begin a new era in the NBA. The lifting of lockout will certainly release the intense pressure on all the NBA players and bring
back all the players who have signed overseas during lockout.
Kevin Garnett:
Kevin Garnett, who is currently busy in China for promoting his Chinese endorser while also featuring in many exhibition games, has mentioned clearly as he is not considering to play overseas during this lockout. His primary priority
is to rest his body during the lockout which has been constantly playing for the almost last decade.
