Boston Celtics - NBA Teams that have made huge strides in the off season – Opinion (Part 3)
4. Boston Celtics
It was not long ago, when the Boston Celtics were struggling to even put together a starting five. Injuries ran through their roster last season and the departure of Ray Allen to fierce rivals Miami Heat at the start of the off
season further dampened their outlook.
Danny Ainge and the C’s however came into action quickly, and if we look at their roster now, it appears to be one of, if not the strongest, in the Eastern Conference.
The biggest move which the Celtics made was the acquisition of Jason Terry, the former Dallas Mavericks shooting guard, who is one of the best reserves in the league. Jet’s arrival has added a lot of steel to the Celtics bench,
and the addition of Courtney Lee then, pretty much filled the void left behind by Allen. When Avery Bradley rejoins the team in one and a half month’s time, the Boston back court will become one of the most formidable in NBA.
Apart from the guards, the Celtics have also re-signed Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox, the duo which suffered from rare heart ailments last season and had to be released for proper procedures and rehab. While Chris Wilcox will help
Kevin Garnett play lesser minutes and avoid fatigue, Green adds the element of explosiveness to the Celtics front court. He has always been a talented player and if the pre season games are considered as indicators, the former Oklahoma City Thunder star is
all set for his breakthrough season. To make the matters more favourable for the Celtics, Green is desperate to prove himself.
All these players will make life easy Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce and Garnett, the three pillars of the team, who carried it into the Conference Finals last season.
The X-Factor for the Greens can however be Jared Sullinger.
The rookie was red flagged by the NBA doctors before the draft night, and the result was the potential top five pick slipped down into the early 20’s where the C’s called the pick. Sullinger is a brilliant rebounder and shooter,
and if he remains healthy, can be the biggest catch of last season’s draft.
