Boston Celtics President Danny Ainge hopeful of snapping up Jeff Green – NBA Update
The Boston Celtics lost Jeff Green to a heart condition for the whole of last season but they are hoping to secure the forwards signature once again. Green is a free agent and would interest quite a few teams around the NBA, but Celtics President Danny Ainge
is positive he can secure a deal.
Ainge was the man who decided to bring Jeff to Boston even at the cost of Kendrick Perkins, a player much loved within the Celtics dressing room and has since gone on to be very successful with the Oklahoma City Thunder. So when Green was diagnosed with
a heart condition and ruled out for the entire season, Ainge stuck with him.
Danny and team coach Doc Rivers showed Jeff tremendous support and despite him not being under contract with the franchise, never let him feel as not one of the Celtics. Their professionalism and care in dealing with Green impressed the forward, and his
agent David Falk just suggested that he would likely re-sign with Boston.
It is thus with authority that Danny is hoping to bring Jeff back into the Celtics fold.
“We intend to have Jeff back,” he said. “Nothing is done, but we intend to have him back. We intend to have a contract with him, hopefully by the end of the moratorium. I feel good about Jeff and where he’s at.”
Green’s heart condition came as a shock to everyone as the physical marvel was sidelined for a whole year. Jeff had to undergo surgery and Danny Ainge stuck by him through it, and that is where the executive saw that Jeff will be more than fine once his
rehabilitation is over with.
“He wants to be back, we want him back, and we’re working to make that happen. When I sat with Jeff through the medical process, and went to see four medical specialists, it became pretty clear that he would return, and that he would be better — in better
condition and shape after this procedure.”
The Celtics had a deep playoff run last season with a depleted side, taking the Miami Heat to seven games in the Eastern Conference Final. Some fans have suggested they could have won that game 7 with Green in the line-up, so if he signs again, they could
well find out.
