Boston Celtics and Jeff Green nearing a contract extension – NBA News
Boston Celtics and Jeff Green are very near to signing a new deal that will see the player in the Celtics uniform for next season and beyond.
The Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge recently hinted that a deal to bring back free agent Green was almost complete.
Green’s agent David Falk was also confident that a deal would be reached in the coming days.
Green was traded to the Celtics in February 2011, but sat out the entire of the 2011-2012 season after having to undergo surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm.
“We intend to have Jeff back. Nothing is done, but we intend to have him back. I think we're going to enter a contract with him, hopefully by the end of the moratorium,” said Ainge after introducing his three draft picks in a press
conference in Boston.
Despite being an unrestricted free agent, Green wants to return to the Boston Celtics without any doubt in his mind as he feels he has a great relationship with the management of the Celtics. Ainge has been very supportive of Green
through his heart woes and accompanied him trips to the doctor. He also has a great relationship with Celtics coach Doc Rivers and feels he is in the right place.
“Of course (Green) wants to come back here. It's not done. I am optimistic it will get done, because this is where Jeff wants to be ... There's no specific timetable, but (Boston is) clearly where he wants to be,” said Green’s
agent David Falk.
Green has been receiving a great deal of attention from other NBA teams as well but he is single minded about where he wants to play next season and the mutual respect between the player and the team management has made this a
done deal with only the formalities to be negotiated. Both sides are optimistic that the deal will be finalized before July 11th when the moratorium lifts and players can officially sign contracts.
“It's being in a place where you have a great fit, and I think that one of the things that makes the fit the most effective is the relationship a player has with his coach,” added Falk.
