Boston Celtics carry on with their Miami Heat obsession – NBA Report
Boston Celtics have made it a point to target Miami Heat publically this summer. Doc Rivers started it all by urging his players to develop a hate for the South Beach team, Jason Terry then went a step ahead and claimed he wanted
to kill Heat.
There have also been others working on the same line, but in reality, all this only points to one fact – the Celtics are intimidated by the Heat and are following their every move.
Rivers recently made a statement which put more weight behind the argument.
Miami Heat played the Los Angeles Clippers in the Game 1 of NBA China tour yesterday, and Rivers admitted that he was watching, albeit in short stints.
"I was doing our stuff, but it was on and I kept glancing up," admitted Rivers. "I didn’t really watch it, but it was on in my office while they were playing.
The coach then tried to generalize the statement, by adding Knicks and others to the mix;
We watched -- right now we’re watching the Knicks, too, and we’re watching everybody, because we have to do our prep work for the season and you do it through preseason games. Teams don’t tend to play their [stars] a lot, but they
do run their new actions a lot, so we can learn a lot about what they’re trying to do."
Heat have been the nemesis for the Celtics ever since the big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh came together. In their first season together, Miami routed the Celtics 4-1 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Last
year, even though the C’s stretched Miami to seven games in the Conference Finals, they found no way to respond when LeBron James got hot late in the series.
To remain competitive, Danny Ainge (GM) has made some major changes to their roster in the off season. While the departure of Ray Allen was one he didn’t want, the arrival of Jason Terry and Courtney Lee, and the return of Jeff
Green and Chris Wilcox, has added the much needed depth to the Celtics roster. They have three highly dependable players in Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo, but even with all these resources, the Greens will have to play out of their skins to topple
the Heat.
Their first test comes as early as October 30th when they take on the Heat in the season opener.
