Boston Celtics close to agreement with Jeff Green for a four year contract – NBA News
In a much anticipated move, it has been learnt that the Boston Celtics and Jeff Green are close to agreeing on a deal that will have Green returning to the Celtics line-up for next season. Green had made his intentions of returning to the Celtics quite clear
but did not know what the Celtics were going to offer him at that time.
He is very fond of the Celtics team management as they supported him fully when he was diagnosed with a life threatening heart condition and had to miss a full season because of it.
The Celtics staff co-operated fully with Green during his recovery and coach Doc Rivers was also very supportive of him. Now that Green is back healthy and ready to start playing in the NBA again, both sides wanted him to return to the green nation. And
his agent David Falk told sports Illustrated that a deal is near completion.
“I’m confident it’ll get done. I guess (Boston) got (Brandon) Bass’ (contract) done, which is great. Jeff is trying to get a sense of what the team looks like first before he makes a commitment, but I expect he’ll be there and I expect it’ll be done by the
11th,” said Green’s agent David Falk while talking to SI.com.
Green played three seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder where he was sent after his rookie year with the Seattle Super Sonics. He played 49 games for the Thunder in the 2010-2011 NBA season and averaged 15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists. However,
he had a field goal percentage of 43.7% and a three point percentage of 30.4%. He was traded to Boston that season and played 26 games for them, averaging 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Green sat out the whole of the 2011/2012 NBA season with a heart condition.
Green is tipped to be a great talent of the future in the NBA after having a couple of great seasons with the Thunder. He is a bit inefficient from the field and needs to improve his field goal percentage but is an overall contributor and scores on a regular
basis.
The Celtics are reportedly offering him $40 million for a four year contract which will be a huge contract for Green. The Celtics are looking to strengthen their roster with Ray Allen leaving and keeping the remaining of the core intact in an attempt to
contend for the NBA title one more time next season.
