Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers: Kevin Garnett won’t change approach if Chris Bosh returns – NBA Playoffs Update
Miami Heat and Boston Celtics are tied at 2 games apiece in the Eastern Conference Final after the Celtics won game-4 in overtime. The complexion of the matchup could be about to change however as the Heat look set to welcome back star forward Chris Bosh.
Bosh has been out with an injury since game-1 of the Heat’s series against the Indiana Pacers and his coach Erik Spoelstra has conceded that he might not even be ready yet. Doc Rivers and the Boston Celtics staff though are preparing for a Heat line-up that
will include the perennial All-Star.
Rivers knows that the Celtics will have to make extra plans for Bosh, who will bring more size to the Miami line-up as well as more craft and skill inside the paint. Some people have suggested that Bosh’s return could put a stop to the great run Celtics
veteran Kevin Garnett has had so far, but that is where Rivers disagrees.
Doc Rivers believes that Garnett will play just as he is playing right now even if Bosh comes back. KG has rolled back the years for some inspired displays this post season and his coach believes that is set to continue.
"I don't know how different it'll be; I think Kevin's going to try to post up whoever they throw out there and we're going to try to post him up," said Rivers. "It's just another body. Chris is obviously very talented, poses his own problems, but I don't
think Kevin will be that concerned with whoever is there."
Garnett has been a focal point of the injury stricken Celtics side as they continue to battle against insurmountable odds. He was again very important in the overtime victory that levelled the series. It has been suggested that Bosh’s return could be hastened
just because of that reason.
How quickly Bosh catches up to speed though is still in question. The power forward has spent some time watching his team from the sidelines, so there could be rustiness.
Rivers though is not taking chances. He believes the Miami forward will be fit and firing soon enough.
"It hasn't been that long," said Rivers. "I think it's more challenging when he's been out a long time. For the player, you just want him to be him. I think a lot of players come back [hesitantly], especially if your team is playing.”
