Boston Celtics’ draft pick E’Twaun Moore officially signs the Italian
deal: NBA Update
Purdue University’s player E’Twaun Moore, who was drafted by the Boston Celtics as the 55th overall pick in Round 2 during this year’s NBA draft, has signed a one-year contract with the Italian club team Benetton Treviso.
On the successful completion of one season, the Italian club will pay $200,000 to the 6 ft 4 in shooting guard, who has yet to play his first NBA game. The deal with the Benetton Treviso includes the immediate escape clause, which
will enable Moore to come back and play for the Boston Celtics when the lockout ends.
Moore was pretty excited on the deal with Treviso and stated that the best part of the agreement is that he can return and play for the Celtics with the start of the next NBA season.
"That was the key to the whole deal ... the escape clause. I really want to play in the NBA and be a Boston Celtic, but I also want to get back on the floor as quickly as possible. Now, I can go over to Italy, play for a great
organization and come back to the NBA when everything gets settled.” Moore said.
E’Twaun is expected to leave for Italy in next two to three weeks to join the training camp with the rest of the players. Before the regular season of the Italian league, Moore will take part in the exhibition games that will be
held in September.
Moore stressed that playing in Italy will be a good learning curve for him. The taste of some high intensity professional basketball will definitely hone his skills before he starts playing with the big boys of the Eastern Conference.
“I've never been to Italy, and I don't speak Italian, but I think this will be a great learning experience for me. I am grateful and excited."
E’Twaun Moore’s agent Mark Bartelstein was of the view that since the NBA work stoppage is expected to linger on for a long period, the Italian job will give his young client to get a taste of the big stage, before he sets his
foot on the NBA courts.
