Boston Celtics face concerns about their playoff chances as Ray Allen suffers from ‘bone spurs’ – NBA Update
With the playoff position secured and only a few game remaining in the regular season, it does not come as much of a surprise that Boston Celtics have opted to rest their veteran guard, Ray Allen to recover from an ankle injury.
However with the most recent MRI scans performed on Tuesday, the Celtics have suffered a huge setback in their hopes of getting Allen back to full fitness before the playoffs.
The scans have revealed that Allen is suffering from bone spurs in his ankle which has been the major cause behind him missing a total of 14 games this season.
Meanwhile coach Doc Rivers believes that it not something new and is concerned over the amount of time, Allen`s ankle is taking to recover.
“It’s the same,” Rivers said. “We don’t know anything. It’s a concern, like I said, but other than that, we just have to wait and see”
Allen has also been very stressed over the situation as in his long lasting 16 year career; He has not had to face many injuries. The most games he has missed in a season in 27 proving the fact that he has managed to stay fit and
healthy to play for most of his career.
However with the recent injury to his ankle refusing to go away, Allen had to face the shock of finding out that he is suffering from bone spurs.
“The other day when it swelled, they say they could be the size of a grain of sand but they're not supposed to be in there so as they swell, they move around and as the swelling goes down, they rest.” – Allen said
This recent finding in his recovery has put a big ‘question mark ‘on his availability to play in the post season for the Celtics.
Even though the coaching staff and the physicians at Boston will not force him to return to action, however it does come as a big blow to the Celtic`s bench scoring as Allen in his recent role, coming off from the bench was performing
very well.
Allen first tried returning from the same ankle injury at the start of April. However his return to action was short lives as it only lasted four games. In those four games, Allen took to the role of coming off the bench while
shooting 45.3% from the field.
Celtics still have one game left in the season and were hoping to get Allen back to get him some playing time while their other stars like Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo are also hopefully going to be returning in the game.
”I am hoping (Pietrus) will be able to play. Rondo should be able to play. But they’re all should and woulds, but there’s no definites. That’s just the way it is right now” – Rivers said on the matter.
Boston takes to court in their last game against the Milwaukee Bucks and look to secure home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs. However, they also have to deal with injury crisis considering the playoffs being
just around the corner.
