Boston Celtics forward Brandon Bass striving to rediscover his shooting touch – NBA Update
Heading into the postseason, Boston Celtics forward Brandon Bass has lost his shooting touch. Bass concluded the regular season after averaging 12.5points and 6.2 boards however his accuracy dwindled to 40.9 percent from 48 percent
since the post season started, reducing his points per game to 9.6.
Celtics are helping their forward Brandon Bass in every possible way to rediscover his shooting touch. In the previous 3 semi-final games he connected on 5-for-15, 5-for-10 and 4-for-9 from the floor respectively. Rajon Rondo has
been providing him open look shots throughout the past three games, but it seems that Bass is still a work in process.
Coach Doc Rivers doesn’t seem to be worried that much and appreciated the fact that Bass is at least trying;
“Of the 15, 10 of them were wide-open shots,” Rivers said. “What should a guy that can shoot do with wide-open shots? He should shoot the ball. Obviously you’d like him to make them, but he didn’t.”
Doc Rivers recalled a similar incident that happened with Greens’ player Eddie House few years back. He lost the shooting touch but the franchise didn’t tolerate him. However things are different with Bass, as he is of more value
to them, especially when the franchise is already short on good backups;
“If you’re a shooter, you better keep taking them,” Rivers said. “We had a guy on our team a couple of years ago, Eddie House. Now, Brandon has more value to us than that, but that’s what he does. Brandon takes shots and he makes
15-footers. He hasn’t been making them, but he has to keep taking them. That’s who he is.”
Greens are presently leading 2-1 in the semi-final series against the Sixers and have so far been carried by the Kevin Garnett. The big has hit a purple patch in the semifinal series and the one game that the C’s have lost was
due to the fact the Doc Rivers kept KG on the bench a bit too long.
In the game three Paul Pierce and Rondo also came to the party, but they will struggle at one point or another and when that happens the C’s cannot afford the shooting struggles of Bass.
He is showing signs of regaining his touch and was nearly 50 percent from the floor in the last two games combined, but if the Celtics are to continue their hot run towards the NBA Finals, Bass will have to do much better.
