Boston Celtics free agent Delonte West takes his talent to a furniture store: NBA News
When the lockout hit the National Basketball Association (NBA) on July 1, there was a fear that the players will feel the financial pinch as time passes by. Now, with the lockout breathing into its fourth month, that concern is
becoming a reality.
The poster boy for this financial crunch at the moment is Boston Celtics free agent Delonte West. The tattooed star recently posted a message on twitter that he has got a job with the Regency Furniture store in Brandywine, Md.
"Need a 2nd job to stay afloat during the lockout."
Apparently ecstatic at the opportunity, West mentioned each step involved in the hiring process and also described his first day at work to his 6000 plus followers on the micro blogging site.
After finishing his first day at the store, West tweeted, "Just finished a big moving job," and also posted a picture of him with his fellow team members. "Regency is a cool place to be. Now I'm chilling. It's almost 5."
The sales manager of the store, Daniel King, happy to have such a star in their ranks, revealed that the company has hired West for the showroom and not for the ware house job,
"We have to save his hand for basketball!" Even if West doesn’t any do any work at store, his fame is enough to drag lot of customers to the showroom that is also close to his old school.
West has been one of the most active players in this lockout. The reason for this is that like other NBA players, West cannot go abroad to play for an international team because of his criminal record – the infamous weapon carrying
case last preseason, which also got him banned for the first 10 games last season.
According to a ruling by the judge, West cannot proceed abroad until he finished his probation time.
However, at the same time, it seems a bit strange that West needs cash so urgently. He has earned sufficient money, $14 million until 2010 and $1 million in the previous year with the Celtics, in his pro-career up till now and
to go after such jobs seems very strange.
