Boston Celtics’ guard Avery Bradley exploring options overseas: NBA update
Boston Celtics shooting guard Avery Bradley has become a recent addition to the list of NBA players, who are looking to take their talents overseas due to an indefinite lockout.
Avery, who is among the six players under contract with Boston for the next season, however has made it clear that his first priority will always be C’s. Avery’s agent Mitchell Butler has revealed that he and his client are exploring
the opportunities and any contract that includes an out clause would be considered.
In the 2010-11 season, Bradley played just 31 games and scored at an average of 1.7 points per game on .343 percent shooting from the field. Bradley spent most of the season on the sidelines due to injury issues. Late in February,
Avery suffered the spinal cord injury, when he was playing against the Orlando Magic.
However, Boston’s management and head coach Doc Rivers still believe has that potential to excel in the future.
Rivers said, "Listen, Avery didn’t have a normal NBA season. He missed the entire training camp. He missed the entire preseason. He had no chance last year. It was just unfair for him -- physically, mentally, everything. This year,
hopefully he gets a fresh start and a fair start with his health. Right now, Avery's a scorer; he's not really a point guard. He's a direct line-drive guard. We ran a couple sets for hand-offs that, with his speed, getting to the basket, he finishes at the
basket. He was an NBA defender before he got here, and he still is. We haven't messed him up."
The 20 year old, who had earned $1.4 million last season with the C’s, is not exploring overseas option because of money. In fact as per his agent, he is looking to extend the range of his game and that is a thing which can help
him Celtics in the longer run. Avery, who came in the league as the 19th overall pick in 2010, is looking to keep himself in shape by playing more games so he will be up to the task once the lockout gets sorted out.
The Celtics point guard also had a stint with Development League team Maine Red Claws, a team affiliated with the C’s. So far Avery’s best performance came against the New York Knicks in April, when he thumped his career-high 20
points.
