Boston Celtics guard Delonte West fills out a job application form at Home Depot: NBA News
After the employees of the franchises, now it’s the turn of the National Basketball Association players to face the music as the lockout starts showing its true colours. With the lockout in place, the players are barred from any sort of financial assistance from their respective and nearly one and half month into the lockout, this fact has started to take its toll, especially on the players who do not have a big pay check.
To address this situation, the 28 year old shooting guard of the Boston Celtics, Delonte West has taken a rather unusual route for an NBA player. He has filed an application to get a job a Home Depot.
Like other players West cannot go overseas and play for an international team, as he was charged with six weapons offenses and two traffic violations in the preceding year. West pleaded guilty of carrying a dangerous weapon (an eight-inch bowie knife) and illicitly transferring a handgun.
In order to save his NBA career judge didn’t sent him to jail. Infact he was decreed to serve eight months of home imprisonment, two months of probation and 40 hours of community service.
Delonte recently tweeted on his social website account, “Can't even go get that overseas money. Judge said it's a no go on leaving the country...”
Therefore, West who has earned $14 million during his entire career has now decided to find a job and for that purpose he had filled out a Home Depot application form, aiming to work there until the lockout gets over and he starts receiving his salary cheque from the C’s once again.
A disappointed West left this tweet on his account last week, “It’s official.. Pride 2 the side.. just filled out a application at Home Depot.. Lockout ain’t a game.”
West will earn $10 an hour, while working at the Home Depot. This may not be enough for him to live lavishly, but it surely will allow him to have Big Macs and gas money for his high priced motorcycle, at least in the lockout.
So far Delonte had spent seven seasons in the NBA, but failed to make an impact and the basic reason behind his poor performance is inconsistency. After playing for the Seattle Super Sonics and Cleveland Cavaliers, West joined the Celtics in 2010, but failed to raise his career average above 10 points per game.
West had earned the prominence not because of his play, but because of his off court actions. His relation with LeBron James mother had kept him in news for a long time and as a result of that, Delonte had to leave the Cavs in a hurry.  Now with the C’s, he has got an ideal opportunity to fit into the rebuilding process that is going on there.  But, for that to happen, the season has to start. As Delonte said “Lockout ain’t a game”.
