Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo still experiencing wrist pain - NBA Update
Double-double monster and Boston Celtics point guard, Rajon Rondo, started the season in style, pounding 31 points and 13 assists in his very first game.
He continued the good form and kept piling up impressive tallies in the games that followed, however unfortunately for him and the C's, he injured his wrist in the game against Toronto Raptors on 18th January and went on to miss Celtics next 8 games because of the injury.
He made a comeback this week in a game against the New York Knicks, but his performance in that game and then in the next against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night, didn’t suggest that the playmaker was back to his best.
Rondo only managed to score 12 points in those two games and struggled big time in both the outings.
To make things worse, he played both games with a blackened right eye, however Rondo has denied that the swollen eye had any role in his dismal performances and added that it is the wrist that is responsible for his below par display.
“I was pretty critical last night, but realistically I haven’t touched a ball since (Jan. 18) because of the wrist,” said Rondo. “I’m a right-handed player, so I couldn’t shoot free throws. I beat myself up because I missed (four) free throws. And some turnovers I made, I wasn’t strong enough to make the pass. “
The swingman was spotted with a brace on the wrist after both the games;
“You’ll see this on me maybe one or two more games, “he said referring to the brace”. I won’t say it bothers me mentally, but it’s really tight and I have to wear it for the support because I do hit the ground a lot”
Rondo is an integral part of Celtics roster and the team management needs to treat him extremely cautiously. One more injury and he might miss the complete season.
Celtics are blessed with some of the best players in the league in the form of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, but all those are in the twilight of their career and are on the cusp fof retirement. Rondo is the future of Celtics and this makes him even more precious for the team. A hasty comeback at this stage may cost the Celtics much more than they can take.
