Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo yet to recover from elbow injury – NBA Update
The Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is still recovering from the horrific elbow injury, he suffered during the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Miami Heat. Rondo had dislocated his elbow upon falling awkwardly after
a scramble for the ball with Dwayne Wade in the game-3 of the physically intense series.
Television replays showed Rondo’s arm bending in an unnatural direction and sent chills throughout the crowd. To his credit, the player returned from the locker room with his arm patched up and made some amazing one handed plays,
inspiring his team to victory in the 2nd round playoff game. However, the Celtics were eventually dumped out by the Miami Heat 4-1.
Rondo has gone through a long rehabilitation since then, but the troublesome injury is still not fully healed. The point guard, who was one of Boston’s best players last season, admitted during a recent interview that it had been
a difficult injury to deal with a he was still in some discomfort,
“It’s the most pain I’ve ever been in playing ball. I’m feeling a little pain now, but the swelling is down. The only thing is there’s swelling in my joint.” Rajon said.
The player is expected to make a full recovery before the NBA season starts and the lockout would supposedly give him more time to condition himself. Rondo himself was not too worried about the injury’s impact on him and said he
would ready when the time comes,
“I’ll be fine, it just takes time. I’ve got a couple more weeks that I’m off, as far as rest and the repetition of weights.”
Rondo is the young hope of the Boston Celtics, a team that has been built around the aging trio of superstars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. The Big Three of Boston are the cornerstone of the Celtics franchise and even
though Rondo is now one of the most important players in the side, there can be no success without the contributions of the veteran stars.
After Boston were shown the door in the 2nd round by the Miami Heat - who have a Big Three of their own in LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade - concerns were raised in many quarters that Boston had blown their
chance of a final NBA World Championship with the current roster. It has been suggested that the aging Big Three just cannot cut it anymore as elite, championship worthy performers.
Rondo also took time to dismiss this notion, saying he has faith in his teammates and they will be gunning for an NBA ring again next season,
“I’m not concerned about the Big Three. There’s a lot of things that people don’t see, behind the scenes. They take care of their bodies. They are in the gym early, in the gym late… We still have a chance to get another ring.”
