The Boston Celtics already have an alternative for Ray Allen, who has proven that he can fill the shoes at the shooting guard position last season. Avery Bradley impressed coach Doc Rivers so much last season that
when Allen returned from his ankle injury, Rivers decided to play Allen off the bench and continue with Bradley in the starting five.
Bradley showed great chemistry with the Celtics starting core, particularly with Rajon Rondo. His and Rondo’s combination seemed to have given the Celtics a solid backcourt. In addition, Bradley’s athleticism and his defensive
skills allowed Rondo to focus on the offence and make plays for the team. And apart from Bradley, the Celtics have both Courtney Lee and Jason Terry who can play at the shooting guard position.
The Celtics will also have Jeff Green available for next season, after signing him to a contract during the off-season. The 6f t 8 in player was acquired in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder back in 2011, but missed the 2011-2012
season after he was diagnosed with a heart condition.
Green spent the whole season recovering from his heart surgery and is finally ready to play professional basketball again. In his last season with the Thunder, the forward averaged 16.9 points in 29.9 minutes per game, although
he played only 7 games in the season.
With Green and Bradley rising among the ranks, and Terry and Lee being added to strengthen the bench, the Celtics will have a deep roster to play around with come next season. And the Celtics have the future of the franchise in
the form of Rajon Rondo. When the “big three” was compiled in Boston back in 2007, Rondo was not even a part of it. Today, he is the most important player in the Celtics roster.
At 26, he has a long career ahead of him, and is already hitting his peak. Rondo is without a doubt, the floor general of the Celtics on the court and one of the best point guards in the league at the moment. In addition to that,
he is also the face of the franchise for the future, and the guy the Celtics can build around once Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce decide to call it a day.
Rondo averaged 11.9 points during the past season and 17.3 in the playoffs. In addition to that, he also averaged 11.7 assists per game. He is mentioned among the top guards in the league at the moment.
With the addition the Celtics made to the roster in the offseason, along with the fact that they still have a franchise player who can lead them into the future, the Celtics look like they will be a contender in the Eastern Conference
for many years to come.
