Boston Celtics need their bench mob to deliver next season – NBA Feature Part 2
Chris Wilcox
Chris Wilcox’s short spanned season came to an end even earlier as he had to miss most part of the season because of heart surgery. But like Jeff Green., he will be returning in a Boston Celtics uniform next season.
So how can Wilcox be an asset for Boston and play a vital role in their run to an NBA Championship?
Well for starters, he will certainly need to return to court without any baggage. The Celtics don’t need a player who needs time while he adjusts. They would rather have someone as ready to start the new campaign as any other player.
Wilcox is capable of playing both the power forward and centre position and will certainly need some extra effort if he wants to improve on his 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds averages from last season.
He is only 29 years old and can provide Kevin Garnett with a suitable backup and his ability to not only be a post player but moving up and down in transition will need to be very good for the Celtics to stand any chance on being
competitive.
However, for him to live up to his potential, Wilcox will need to spend some time on his offensive scoring before he can finally start contributing majorly for the Celtics.
Avery Bradley
Avery Bradley has been a great addition to the Boston starting line up as he proved to be one the best perimeter defenders around last season.
However, as good as he was on the defensive end, Bradley struggle to find his rhythm on offence and often found it hard to make the most of his chances. So in order for him to be more productive for the Celtics, Bradley will need
to work on his offence.
One of the major things which can be of great help to Bradley’s cause is that if he can improve his ball handling which will not only help him create shots for himself but also provide him with opportunities to create chances for
his team-mates as well.
Another thing which Bradley needs to focus on is his movement without the ball. He has proven to be very good in transition but has often struggle while going up against set defences which has been one of the main reasons for his
lack of productivity.
But the most important task of all would be to return fully fit for next season as he is currently recovering from shoulder surgery.
Fab Melo
Coming into his first year in the NBA, Fab Melo has all the makings of a true big man in the NBA but he would not succeed until he learns the traits that are required to be successful.
He is familiar with a zone system as he played College basketball at Syracuse. However, for him to be a suitable back up to Garnett, he will need to increase his familiarity with the pick and roll offence.
Over the past, Doc Rivers has not set many responsibilities on the shoulders of his rookies but due to the lack of big men on the Boston roster, Melo will be getting more playing time than usual.
But in order for him to be a successful asset to the Celtics, he will need to increase his production value on both ends of the floor.
