Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo re-writes history in Game-2 against Miami Heat - NBA Update
The 2nd game of the Eastern Conference Finals between Miami Heat and Boston Celtics will be remembered for a long time.
The game went right down the wire and was eventually won by the Heat, but there was one Boston player, who took centre stage despite of the loss. He was the sensational Rajon rondo.
Rondo opened a new epoch in the playoffs by scoring 44 points, 10 assists and 8 boards but most significantly, he played continuously for 53 minutes. The guard did it all in the game; he guarded LeBron James to perfection; was
10-for-12 from the free throw line; and scored all 12 of Boston points in overtime, including two daggers from downtown.
Rondo bewildered the entire basketball nation with his unrivalled game style. He was taking jump shots like they are his signature move. He was 16-for-24 from the field and out of those 16, 10 were from 16 to 26 feet away from
the post.
It was the 1st time Rondo crossed the 40 point marker in any of his playoffs or regular-season game and yet he was nothing but humbled.
“I felt fine,’’ Rondo said. “It was a mental grind for me individually, and for us as a team. It’s the conference finals. I wanted to play every minute. I thought I didn’t hurt my team by me playing every minute.’’
Even though the Greens lost in overtime, 115-111 falling behind 2-0 in the East’s Final, Rondo has ensured one thing after the game, Greens future is secured as long as he is around.
Things might have been different if the officials noticed the hard foul drawn on Rondo. The scores were tied at 105 apiece with only 2 minutes remaining in the extra time. Dwyane Wade hit Rajon on the face but the officials took
no notice. Rondo tried to win a foul from the official but C’s Coach had to intervene.
Rondo said that, that could have been a big swing for them.
“It was obvious,’’ said Rondo. “I can’t comment on that play in particular. It’s part of the game. Things didn’t go our way. That was a big swing for us. I think we had the momentum”.
Rondo was the same player who was rumoured to be gone before the trade deadline. But things will certainly change after this season.
Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett days in the franchise are numbered and the C’s will have to rebuild the team around their new pivot, Rondo.
C’s Big Three have been challenged and thwarted by younger teams throughout the season. Now in the finals they seem so vulnerable in front of James and Dwyane Wade. They yet have to compete in 5 more games, but another 2 defeats
can oust them for good.
Though the chances to withstand another Heat wave are bleak but Rondo sent out a clear message, he will not go down without a fight. His performance compelled a superstar like James to say “absolutely amazing.”
