Boston Celtics land Courtney Lee in a sign and trade deal with Houston Rockets – NBA Update
Courtney Lee has been dealt over to the Boston Celtics by the Houston Rockets in a three team trade that also involved Portland Trail Blazers. The announcement of the deal was made on Friday by the Celtics management, one in which
the Blazers joined in to facilitate as a party, a day prior to the whole deal being materialized.
Boston’s president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was very happy with the deal being made of Lee. He feels that Courtney will feel right at home and can blend in well with the amount of talent Boston has at their disposal.
"We are very excited that we were able to acquire Courtney Lee," Ainge said. "Courtney brings a vast set of tools on both ends of the court and will be a great fit on our roster."
The semantics of the deal have been drawn in such a manner that the Celtics are going to give Lee a full contract worth $21.5 million for a time period of four years. In exchange for bringing over Lee to Boston, they are going
to be sending JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore, Sean Williams and a future second-round pick to the Rockets. At the same time, Portland will be receiving Sasha Pavlovic from the C’s, along with some cash amount and two future second round draft picks.
Portland have been included in the deal to ensure a higher salary for Lee, who gets a fully guaranteed contract.
After losing Ray Allen to Miami Heat and Avery Bradley to twin shoulder surgeries, the Celtics had been left a little light at the two guard position. By bringing in Lee, Celtics are hoping to bolster their roster at the start
of next season – before Bradley comes back - and this will also allow them to keep the newly acquired Jason Terry in his preferred sixth man role.
Lee mustered 11.4 points, playing for an average of 30.3 minutes in 58 games for the Rockets last season. During that span, he started on 26 occasions and shot the ball 40.1 percent from three point land.
