Boston Celtics star Jeff Green says his best is yet to come – NBA Update
Jeff Green has promised Boston Celtics fans that there is a lot more to come from him yet and he would show them his true worth next season.
The forward said he has confidence in his ability and would prove any doubters wrong when he gets on the basketball court next season.
Green has always shown flashes of brilliance in his short NBA career, but hasn’t really been able to consolidate and build on his talent. The player believes it is really because he hasn’t really had a clear run out on the court,
when he does, he is confident of turning in the performances.
“Yeah, man, you know a lot of people don’t know what I can really do,” he said according to the Boston Herald.
The player, who was traded in during the season from the Oklahoma City Thunder, said he didn’t have an opportunity to showcase himself because of the two stars already present in Oklahoma. Kevin Durant, a multiple time NBA scoring
champion, and Russell Westbrook, one of the most explosive point guards in the league today, kept Green’s opportunities at a premium.
“In Oklahoma, I was kind of overshadowed by Kevin (Durant) and the way Russell (Westbrook) picked up, but, excuse my language, I can really (expletive) play. I can really play this game, man.”
His move to Boston raised many an eyebrow during the season. Part of the reason was Green’s own somewhat erratic form, but the major cause for concern among Boston fans was the departure, in turn, of centre Kendrick Perkins.
Perkins was a mainstay of the Boston side, and proved to be a success in Oklahoma City as well. Green on the other hand, though playing reasonably well, wasn’t able to have the sort of impact fans would have expected.
However, the franchise has confidence in him. The head coach, Doc Rivers, never expected him to make a huge splash; the plan always was for Green to grow in the team. Jeff himself says he has support from Rivers, as well as senior
players like Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, and he would be looking to maximize his potential come next season.
“I had some good meetings with (coach) Doc (Rivers) before the lockout, and I’ve been talking to P (Paul Pierce [stats]) and Ray (Allen),” Green said. “Next year they’re really going to allow me to play, and I think that’s what
I need. I need to go out there and just play. Sometimes I think too much, but I just need to go out there and play the game.”
Celtics President Danny Ainge is believed to have acquired Green so that in time he can take the mantle from Paul Pierce. Although it is a very tough task, Green has some talent, and he really has the right attitude.
