Boston Celtics to face off Miami Heat in the season opener next season – NBA Update
The start of next season could not have gotten any better for basketball fans all around the world as the defending champions Miami Heat will face off against their bitter Eastern Conference rivals Boston Celtics on October 30th
at the American Airlines Arena.
“Heat to host Celtics to open title defense in 2012-13. An sneak peak at the Heat's schedule.” - Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel recently reported.
Miami begin their title defence against Boston – a team they defeated en-route to the NBA Championship. Both these teams faced off against each other in the Eastern Conference finals and after splitting the first six games, Miami
went on to win the series in the 7th and deciding game. The tough series against the C’s in which Miami came back from 3-2 down to win, geared them for the NBA Finals which they cleaned up in five games against Oklahoma City Thunder to lift their
second ever NBA Championship.
The rivalry between these two teams has continued to grow in the off-season as well as Ray Allen parted ways with Boston to join the South Beach franchise. Along with adding Allen to their already star-studded line up, Miami also
secured the signature of one Rashard Lewis who like Ray can be a big asset from the three point land.
The arrival of these two shooters brings far more spacing to the Miami offence and eventually makes them an even stronger team next season.
From a Boston point of view, losing Allen to Miami was a huge setback even when they were offering more money. However they themselves have been making some reasonable changes to their lineup. The Greens have added free agent Jason
Terry on a three year deal and have also been successful in bringing two guard Courtney Lee.
However the biggest achievement for the C’s has been the re-signing of Kevin Garnett who even at 36 is playing great basketball, and will look to be a role model for draftees Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo. The Greens have also re-signed
Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox and look extremely deep at all positions.
With both teams so well equipped and sharing a bitter animosity, it is only befitting to see them start the new season.
