Boston Celtics to play the next 2 games without Ray Allen – NBA Update
Boston Celtics charge towards the playoffs has faced a snag after Ray Allen’s injury, expected to rule him out for at least two games. The 36 year olds ankle flared up at the end of an 8 game road trip forcing him to sit out the
entire game against Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.
He underwent an MRI which didn’t reveal a severe injury but he had to miss the following game against Washington Wizards and then the match against Charlotte Bobcats on Monday.
Allen is an asset for the already short-handed C’s. He is 3rd on the team scoring list, averaging 14.6 points to go with 2.5 assists and 3 rebounds per game this season, starting all 41 of his games he played for Greens.
Coach Doc Rivers was however hopeful that he will return to the court soon as his injury is not that consequential.
"The good news is I know he did an MRI (Saturday) and no one told me anything -- that's good news," said Rivers. "The fact that he had to do one is always a concern, but he was fine."
The veteran started his career in 1996, when he was drafted in by the Milwaukee Bucks as 5th pick overall he went on to play for Bucks till 2003, in the meantime he also represented the American team in 2000 Olympics.
He was then traded off to the former Seattle Super Sonics in 2003.
It was in 2007 that he was traded off to Celtics in a multiplayer deal. Since then he has been playing for Boston and helped his team to bank 2008 NBA championship.
For Boston this news was most certainly a blow especially in the wake of current events, they have lost Mickael Pietrus indefinitely due to a concussion and Avery Bradley will be playing with a sprained left ankle. This will require
an extra effort from Sasha Pavlovic, E'Twaun Moore and Marquis Daniels.
Boston Celtics are aiming the playoffs as they are currently on the 7th spot in Eastern Conference, having 26 wins and 22 loses in this shortened season.
However the coach refuses to allow his team embracing melancholy.
"That's just the way life is, in anything," said Rivers. "Right now it's our team, but I tell our guys all the time, things don't go well all the time, what are you going to do? I tell them that we just keep playing and things
will work out. I'm a big believer in that."
It is said that the injured veteran spot will be filled by Avery Bradley who was brilliant offensively against Washington Wizards. He netted his career high 23 points on March 25th to help his team out gun Wizards 88-76.
