Boston Celtics veteran Kevin Garnett surpasses Shaquille O’ Neal in the all time NBA rebounding list
Tuesday was a good day for Boston Celtics as they squeaked past Houston Rockets 97-92, in an overtime thriller. However for one player in the team, the day was extra special.
He is none other than the iconic forward Kevin Garnett.
By grabbing thirteen rebounds on the night against Rockets, Garnett surpassed the legendary Shaquille O Neal, moving up to 12th spot for players with most rebounds in the history of NBA.
Garnett has now pulled down 13 thousand rebounds in his seventeen years career. He was unaware of this milestone after the game and therefore had to be reminded of it by the team’s media manager. His reaction to it was humble as
it has always been throughout his career.
“I'm very fortunate to be in a position to be a part of NBA history. It's always been a big deal for me to leave a legacy or leave some footprints, if you will, or some type of mark on the game, and to have played [alongside]
one of the best, if not the greatest, big men to ever play the game -- it's more than a pleasure to be in the same category, if not on the same list. I'm more than honoured, to all the coaches and players I've played with, who have put me in a position to
create some of those footprints and some of those marks, so thank you."
Garnett admitted, it requires a lot of motivation and passion to become good at rebounds and that he has worked extremely hard to reach this level. His coach Doc Rivers was also thrilled with the recent milestone of his team’s
stalwart.
Showering praises on Garnett, Rivers added that Kevin is amongst the most hardworking players in history and it is because of his loyalty and love to the game that has landed him to such a prestigious level.
The 35 year old Garnett already has all the accolades in NBA under his belt and this recent achievement is just an addition to them. Although, now he is in the twilight of his career and probably would be retiring in two to three
years, however for his services and outstanding skills, he would always be remembered. Whenever the best in NBA history would be discussed, his name will definitely be mentioned.
