Boston Celtics will not make a move to replace Delonte West
Boston Celtics guard Delonte West broke his right wrist on Wednesday 24 November that could sideline him for the rest of the regular season. But despite the loss, the Celtics are not going
to make a roster move to replace the hard-nosed guard in their rotation.
According to team president Danny Ainge, he and head coach Doc Rivers are expecting that West would recover in time for the play-offs and said that they would just settle with their reserve
guards to fill in the void left by the 27-year-old guard in their rotation.
Ainge also believes that Von Wafer and rookie Avery Bradley, who is slowly starting to get his form back after recovering from an ankle injury, could give them a big boost in their guard
rotation and he is confident that the Celtics would overcome the injury woes that they are facing this season.
“We like our guys, and Avery is starting to get healthy, and Avery and Von are going to have to step up and play,” Ainge said. “It’s tragic for Delonte. I hate to see this happen. But Delonte
will be able to return late in the season to help us.”
However, Rivers said that he is reluctant to give Bradley additional minutes because he believes that the 20-year-old guard needs to get more practices and workouts after undergoing left
ankle surgery during the off-season. Rivers also added the Rondo is on the mend and could play next week that would somehow solve their backcourt woes this season.
Celtics team captain Paul Pierce, on the other hand, remains optimistic about their chances this season despite being hit by different injuries because they have been into the same kind of
situation and they were able to overcome the adversities in the last two seasons.
“We've been dealing with injuries for the last couple years,” Pierce said. “We're going to respond. We're not a team that hangs our heads or makes excuses because we're without two or three
guys. We feel the guys we put out on the floor are more than capable of getting the job done.”
The Celtics are also waiting for the return of their big men, Jermaine O’Neal and Kendrick Perkins, who were both sidelined because of knee injuries.
