Boston Celtics' win over the Miami Heat may have felt extra-special
With the Boston Celtics (7-2) winning their first two games against the much-hyped Miami Heat (5-4), including a 112-107 victory on Thursday 11 November in Miami, Paul Pierce couldn’t
resist expressing his glee on his Twitter account. After the game, he wrote “It's been a pleasure to bring my talents to south beach now on to Memphis.”
His choice of words was an obvious reference to LeBron James, who said he would be “taking his talents to South Beach” on “The Decision,” a one-hour television special on ESPN in early
July, announcing his departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers after seven seasons with the team. James was heavily criticized for the public manner in which he left Cleveland but Miami’s star-studded trio, which also includes Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, has
been the talk of the league ever since.
It is one of the NBA’s worst-kept secrets that a win against the Heat this year, picked by many as this year’s champion before the season began, will likely feel a little more special
given the talent they’ve assembled. While the Celtics were courteous and professional in front of the cameras last night, Pierce’s tweet and Glen Davis reportedly talking about “spanking” the Heat, gives one the impression that the Celtics took some extra
satisfaction from the win. But Pierce told reporters after the game that both teams will be different down the road, as Boston brings players back from injury and Miami builds more on-court chemistry.
"We're going to be a different team in January; they're going to be a different team in January or February," he said. "We have a two-game advantage. You never know when it might come
down to the record. At the end of the year, if we have similar records, these two games are going to mean a lot then.”
James said his team needs to continue to work together and learn each other’s tendencies. "Right now, we are
talented enough to play against these teams, but the chemistry right now isn't up to the level of some of the better teams.”
