Boston College Eagles’ Wes Davis decides to end career
Boston College Eagles safety Wes Davis has made the tough decision to end his football career. The youngster suffered his second neck injury this season and thought it best to leave the game.
Davis underwent an MRI and CT scan, which revealed there was no fracture in the neck. However, the senior missed the squad’s game against the Clemson Tigers on 30 October.
Davis was hospitalized on 23 October, after sustaining a neck injury in his club’s game against the Maryland Terrapins. While under care Davis consulted his family and several doctors, finally making the
decision to leave football.
Davis was forced out of the majority of the season in 2007 with a neck injury that required surgery and clearly the idea that he may have been close to sustaining a similar injury weighed heavily on his
decision to the leave the game.
The decision also come shortly after Rutgers linebacker Eric LeGrand suffered a neck injury that has left the youngster paralyzed from the neck down.
The Eagles have been bitten by the injury bug this season and it did not get any better this week as head coach Frank Spaziani announced that cornerback DeLeon Gause is in need of surgery on his right
knee and will be out for the next three weeks. In addition, right tackle Rich Lapham was forced out of the Clemson game with a knee injury and will undergo an MRI.
Boston College has had a season to forget in 2010, as they currently sit at 3-5 with a 1-4 record against conference opponents, which sees them sitting in fifth spot in the ACC Atlantic Division.
The loss of both Davis and Gause will hurt a defence which has been a strong point for the club this season.
Davis leaves the team with 36 tackles and one interception this season.
