Boston: Does the MBTA ever shut down due to bad weather?

Question

Given the fact that there is supposed to be a huge snowstorm tomorrow, I am wondering if the MBTA has ever shut down for snow? I have never seen it since I've lived here, but I've only been here for about a year.

I'm not getting my hopes up or anything - just curious ;)

It sometimes does shut down for the weather (or replaces the subway lines with shuttle buses), but it doesn't happen that often.  Never-the-less, you should allow more time just in case of delays.

i know our public transit in chicago shuits down totally but the southshore do have to be pulled some times by deisel
