Just asking so please don't take it personal. What do you think? Will this trade go down in history like the Babes? I know it's early but have you lost more than you've gained? Thanks!

  1. I miss the old manny, not the manny we had for the last few weeks of his redsox career.

this trade could never be compared to the babes simply because the babe went to the arch rival Yankees for cash obviously the dodgers aren't much of a concern for Boston.

now jason bay will never strike fear in the hearts of opposing pitchers as manny does so maybe you lose a small percentage in offense but jason bay is a better defensive player so i think it was a good trade.

One thing people cant do and should not do is compare numbers between manny and jason, they are 2 totally different players but both equally effective.

  2. Sure, they trade Manny and then play Oakland. And then they're 3-0. So they swept a losing team. Good confidence booster perhaps, but doesn't mean much as far as things to come unless it helps build momentum. I've been hating on Bay just because I miss Manny, which I'm sure is a little unfair because he is a good player, but he is no Manny Ramirez.

It might pan out, but I honestly think the Sox would have been better off with Ramirez. The media was incredibly unfair to him. I heard lots of reports saying "Manny will approve a trade," but not in the context of "I will approve a trade that two teams will agree to -- but the Red Sox won't be able to find such a deal. They're smart enough to know they're better with me." I guess they weren't as smart as Manny gave management credit for. I loved his "trade me for Favre" sign. He was mocking what a joke the coverage was and all the speculation.

Besides the great numbers he put up every year, Red Sox Nation is losing the funnest player to watch in all of baseball. In any at bat or hit to left field, you didn't know what he was going to do. Slip and fall before catching a pop-up? Ignore the third base coach and beat the throw home by a mile? High-five before turning a double-play?

I will miss him dearly and continue to be a fan of his.

  3. what up Philip B,

a lot of Red Sox fans (including me) miss Manny and are thankful for his contributions over the past few years. however, the team made the right decision to trade him. Manny's contract situation got to the point where it harmed team morale, so Boston's GM Theo Epstein was forced to trade him. losing Manny will definitely hurt the Sox offense, but i believe that adding Jason Bay will bring positive energy to the team.

  4. i am a huge red sox fan and i am happy about the trade year after year he had to pull something he wanted to leave, be traded, and was always late to spring training but this year was the worst i wants tickets but the game is sold out he pushs the guy and fakes a knee injury against the YANKEES how could he do that so i hope he has fun in LA and i happy about jason bay he is doing great but can he keep it up i think he will fit in perfect with the red sox

  5. Manny Was The Cancer Of The Red Sox..

  6. Manny was a cancer in our clubhouse and we needed to respect him after all he's done and let him go. Bay has played great ball so I'm not missing Manny yet.

  7. Jason Bay is younger and just as good. I think it was a good move by the Red Sox.

  8. I LOVE HIM IN LA. I'm glad the Bo Sox traded Manny cause he's literally on fire right now 8-15   6 RBI's   2 HR

But in all honesty Bay will never reach the numbers Manny put up as a Boston Red Sox and we have yet to see Bay in the playoffs, where Manny excelled at. Manny being the clutch player in the playoffs so Manny will be missed probably as a player, but unfortunately he was a big distraction to the Boston Red Sox with his contract.

  9. Boston Fans! You swept a AAA team full of no names!! great job!! and guess what one of them was actually close!!!

  10. They may miss his presence in the lineup, as Bay can't even compare, but that's about it. They got rid of a major distraction.

  11. The Red Sox haven't won 3 in a row? They won in 2004 and then in 2007. What are you talking about?

  12. Honestly...Being a longtime Red Sox fan. The answer to your question is yes and no. Yes we are always going to miss his presence in the lineup. (Especially since he is crushing the ball right now) And No, we do not miss his antics on the field and in the clubhouse. He probably would have made an amazing designated hitter for us if we didn't have Ortiz. But, seeing as how we do have him, he wasn't.
