Alcides Escobar agrees to 4-year $10.5 million deal with Kansas City Royals – MLB News
According to a leading sports website, Alcides Escobar has agreed to a four-year $10.5 million contract extension with Kansas City Royals, who have packed their team with youngsters this season.
The Royals will have the option to upgrade the contract to push the package’s value to $21.75 million, the source further added. Escobar will be very pleased after signing on the contract that guarantees him $10.5 million over the next four years. The 25 year old joined Kansas City Royals in 2011 and he is given some great performances in the minor league since then.
“Defense changes the momentum of a game so much,” general manager Dayton Moore said, “and Alcides is a terrific shortstop for us.”
“He’s been everything I knew he would be,” Yost said. “I’ve loved this kid from the minute I laid eyes on him years ago in Milwaukee…I think he’s a Gold Glove-caliber shortstop.”
Spring Training Session will be of great importance for the striker as it will give him a chance to find his rhythm before the start of regular season. It will be interesting to see if he can make the most of available opportunities to cement his place on Royals’ roster.
“I’m so happy for this situation right now,” Escobar said. “I want to be here for a long time. I like to play for Ned (Yost). I like that Salvador (Perez) signed, too. I’ve talked to my family, and they’re happy, too.”
The news that surfaced on March 15 stated that Escobar will also be eligible for performance based incentives and bonuses. As per the new deal, he will be making $3 million every year from 2013-2015. If the shortstop can impress his managers and coaches over the next four years, he will be making 5.25 million in 2016 and $6.5 million in 2017.
Escobar is still very new to the Major League Baseball world. Although, he is one of the most promising prospects in the league right now, he will have to be at his very best to carve a Golden Glove-level career. Surely, Royals’ management will be looking to facilitate him in every possible way to reap the rewards.
