Boston Red Sox' Adrian Gonzalez disappointed with team's start to 2011 MLB season

The Boston Red Sox made an incredible announcement recently when they revealed they had finalised contract negotiations with first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. The two parties were present at a press conference and talked about the agreement which came after
four months of discussions.
The fiery hitter, who was traded from the San Diego Padres in December 2010, penned an extension deal that will see him play through until 2018 on a $154 million package. However, the Red Sox poor start to the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) season, has
prompted Gonzalez to express his concern.
With just two wins from 10 games, the club has gotten off to one of their worst starts to a season. The situation is concerning for players and fans alike, who will be hoping to be in a better position in the league when the playoffs kick off. The infielder
acknowledged that his side's campaign had gotten off to a poor start but was positive in his approach.
Gonzalez said, "We are disappointed. It's something that you never want to start this way, but we know we have faith in ourselves. We know we're a better team than the 2-9 start, and we're going to turn this around."
He added, "The one good thing about starting 2-9, it means we're going to win a lot more games than we're going to lose going forward. I know, and I'm fully confident that come September, we're going to be in the middle of a pennant race and in a position
that we're going to make the playoffs."
Despite Boston's dismal start, they do have some exceptional stars in the midst, who could turn things around for the club over the next few months. Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury are all formidable stars in the line-up.
Gonzalez has an average of .171 with the bat and his 41 At-Bats have only brought forth 11 hits in as many games. Those figures have not been good enough to help the Red Sox so far. However, the deal will surely raise his game, when he faces the Toronto
Blue Jays on Saturday.
