Boston Red Sox Ben Cherington receives accolades – MLB News
The Boston Red Sox management’s decision to induct Ben Cherington as the team’s new general manager received a flurry of compliments. With different managerial style and unyielding principles, Cherington got acknowledgment of his merit from everyone who
was intimated with the news.
Among others, it was Theo Epstein who emphatically stated that Cherington was a deserving and worthy successor. His statement holds value because Cherington has been related to the Red Sox, having different set of responsibilities at different times.
"He's very organized," Epstein said of Cherington. "I prefer more of a free form of ideas -- more of a boiler room, think-tank-type atmosphere. There are small differences. We spent 10 years together; he's a great friend and colleague, and I'd like to think
he's ready."
His duties included and were not limited to as the head of amateur scout, advance scout, pro and international scout. As he moved ahead, he became farm director of the team and then saw an elevation to the status of VP of player personnel and then assistant
general manager.
Such a long affiliation has certainly introduced him to the whole set of players and everyone related to the Boston Red Sox. The team president was all praise for the new general manager, calling the Cherington’s experience immensely impressive.
"He's rolled up his sleeves, he's done the work, he has the respect ... his background in scouting is immensely impressive to me," Lucchino said.
Epstein singlehandedly guided the Red Sox to a winning stand after decades with his professional commitment and commencement will for sure, remain a beacon of guidance for the new general manager. His aim will be to revive the times where the Red Sox ruled
the roost.
The foremost assignment that he has undertaken is to bring back David Ortiz and Jonathan Papelbon as the backbone of the team. The confidence that has been reposed in Cherington by the president of the team will surely help resuscitate the inspirational
zeal the Red Sox are known to have. It will be interesting to see what impact Cherington will have on the Red Sox as their new general manager.
