Boston Red Sox Jon Lester feels Spring Training just a normal workout – MLB News
It seems as if the Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester does not feel this training session a special one. He declared Spring Training a regular type of workout for the regular season preparation.
He was talking to the reporters after a practice game against Minnesota Twins that Red Sox won 5-0. He pitched two scoreless innings, striking-out one and allowing one hit and a walk.
Lester feels that Spring Training is just like the regular season in terms of work-outs. However, he does also feel that the spring session gives the teams and the players a good chance to get things together before the long arduous regular season starts.
He said, “No matter if it’s Day 1 of spring training or the 34th start of the year. It’s strike-one. It’s the same mentality as far as if I’ve got two outs or no outs. It doesn’t matter. You’ve got to practice that right now, just like your routine, just
like your whole warm-up session, the whole deal. It’s something we haven’t done for four or five months.”
Though he presented a good performance in his first game, His attitude was not as serious as other players have. He has popularity of being a slow starter. He managed 4.76 ERA in April 2010 season. He has already made it clear that in this season he did
not want more batter to walk.
Jon started his career in 2006 for the Boston Red Sox against the Texas Rangers and ended the season with a 7-2 record. He maintained his consistency and has been in the AL East Franchise for the last five seasons. Lester has had a tremendous performance
posting a 61-25 record with 3.55 ERA and 712 strike-outs in his five year career.
Lester ended his last season winning fourth place in Major League Baseball. He managed to secure the 25th position in MLB with 3.25 ERA. Lester managed to get 19 wins in 2010, getting him to fourth place in the American League CY Young Awards
voting.
