Boston Red Sox acquire Andrew Bailey from Oakland Athletics - MLB News
The Boston Red Sox have acquired relief pitcher, Andrew Bailey from the Oakland Athletics in order to upgrade their 40-man roster for the next Major League Baseball season.
The decision came out on Thursday, in which all the details of contract were declared by both sides. With Bailey, the Red Sox have also acquired outfielder, Ryan Sweeney in a return deal of sending their outfielder, Josh Reddick, a minor league pitcher,
Raul Alcantara and first baseman, Miles Head to Oakland Athletics.
The Red Sox general manager, Ben Cherington said on the very deal with the Athletics that has also made possible for Andrew Bailey to play in the Red Sox’s roster. Cherington showed full confidence on Andrew’s game and said, “Andrew is a proven, top-quality
closer in the American League, We really like his makeup for Boston and everything we’ve learned about him over the past few weeks only strengthened our conviction that he can fit well into our team and in our clubhouse.”
Later, Bailey added that he hoped for a good future. He said, “This is my first healthy offseason since I’ve been in the big leagues. It’s the first time I’ve been not having to rehab anything until the middle of December. I’m excited to get started. Nothing’s
going to change on my end. I’m looking forward to the chance to close out big games.”
Some baseball experts are saying that Bailey’s arrival in the Red Sox will allow them to play more open in the next season. Firstly, he is one of the very well reputed relievers in the Major League and secondly, Bailey will provide a decent cover to the
existing Red Sox relievers. Andrew Bailey is also coming with the full backing of their new manager, Bobby Valentine, who has watched his game quite deeply in the last MLB season.
Bailey, who last season as Athletics’ reliever went with a 3.24 ERA along with 24 saves, 41 strikeouts and 1.10 WHIP, certainly proved his star calibre as several Athletics’ players could not perform well. Meanwhile, a close look at his statistics supports
experts, who are certainly right when they believe Andrew Bailey will strengthen the Boston Red Sox’s roster next season.
