Boston Red Sox acquire closing pitcher Joel Hanrahan – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox have acquired closing pitcher Joel Hanrahan from the Pittsburgh Pirates while in-return, the Pirates will get Jerry Sands and right-hander Stolmy Pimentel.
Hanrahan is a good player and possesses large Major League Baseball experience. He is considered one of the most consistent closing pitchers in the league. His presence in the Red Sox will make their offence more solid.
“I didn’t see anything, I could only hear it,” Hanrahan joked.
Last year, playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, he went with good numbers and achieved 2.72 ERA along with 36 saves, 67 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP. Overall he possesses good career numbers as well. He currently holds a good career ERA of 3.74 along with 96
saves, 436 strikeouts and 1.39 WHIP.
This is a healthy sign for the Red Sox who have landed a good player in the roster. Recently some good players have also departed from the Red Sox while now it will give the Boston side more confidence to go into a new Major League Baseball season.
Recently, Red Sox’s Cody Ross has signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Though he was free agent in this offseason, but still his departure was certainly a big shock for the Red Sox management.
“There may be a move down the line, There may not,” Diamondbacks General Manager Kevin Towers said for Cody Ross.
He said, “He’s a guy who has always been a proven winner, who always delivers when the game is on the line, He’s a clutch performer. I think one thing that our club was missing a little bit last year was some energy.”
Later Ross said and told the reporters some details, “Obviously, if they thought that the outfield was going to be too crowded, they wouldn’t have came after me, I knew they were going to get me enough at-bats and playing in the right places and the right
position.”
Cody Ross played brilliantly in the last Major League season with the Red Sox. He finished with consistent numbers of .267 hitting average along with 22 home runs, 81 RBIs and .326 OBP.
