Boston Red Sox aim on taking R.A. Dickey from New York Mets through trade – MLB Update
As Baseball Winter Meetings start, revelations have begun to surface. Sources report that New York Mets’ General Manager, Sandy Alderson remained busy all day negotiating possible trade deals including R.A. Dickey with the interested organisations.
One of the teams that have emerged as among the best suitors of Dickey is the Boston Red Sox.
Red Sox has outfielders and a couple of other top prospects that can become a part of the deal. Their resources exactly match with the requirements of the Mets.
Earlier Dickey was engaged in talks with the Mets’ top officials for his contract extension. It seems that both parties are finding it difficult to come to terms now.
Dickey was demanding a high salary per year and the contract spanning two-years, according to reports. The Mets, out of having financial limitations, were unwilling to meet it.
That might have become the point of contention and the resultant trade talks of Dickey by the club.
Fortunately for Dickey, there are many clubs interested in him. Apart from Red Sox, the Texas Rangers and the Washington Nationals, among others, were earlier reported to be pursuing him.
Yet, the trade will not be an ideal scenario for him, because he loves playing for the Mets. He wants to contribute toward their success in the upcoming years.
After having a tremendous year with this club, he is eager to continue putting up splendours and winning laurels for the team.
Exclusion of Dickey from the Mets’ roster will be disastrous for the fans. Dickey was their sole source of pride during 2012 season and losing him will certainly be a heartbreaking moment for most of them.
However, they can take heart from the vision of GM, who is looking for match winners in exchange for Dickey.
"What we've tried to say to ourselves is that we have to get back difference-makers," Alderson said. "It doesn't have to be a catcher. It doesn't have to be an outfielder. It doesn't have to be anything. But it has to be a difference-maker. Because R.A.
is a difference-maker."
The next couple of days will be crucial as to where Dickey goes and plays next year.
Reaction of the fans will be worth noting if Dickey is sent to some other organisation.
