Boston Red Sox annihilated by New York Yankees 2-14 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox received a 2-14 hammering against the unforgiving New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, October 3 in the finale of their three match series.
With their emphatic win against their arch rivals, New York claimed their 13thAmerican League East Division title in last 17 years. Credit should be given to Manager Joe Girardi and his men for posting another successful season.
"To have the best record and not know where you're going is strange," manager Joe Girardi said.
"He's very even-keeled," Granderson said. "You never see him get too excited or down."
"I think having that experience in there when it got to zero no one panicked," Girardi said of the division lead. "They had the same personality every day. The looseness, some of the guys were goofy."
Yankees, once again, dominated the Red Sox in almost all departments of the game to clinch a memorable series sweep. The batting line-up, in particular, played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
Curtis Granderson provided Yankees with a dream start as he hit a three run home-run to right in the second inning to put his side 3-1 ahead. Robinson Cano, who won last year’s Home Run Derby, showed impressive hitting skills as he smacked back-to-back home-runs
in the third and the fifth to give New York a commanding 7-1 lead.
"I didn't expect my six years to end the way it did," Boston’s starter Daisuke Matsuzaka said through a translator. "It has been really hard on me mentally for a while now."
Cano continued to put pressure on the Red Sox’s pitching rotation, earning an RBI single to right in the sixth inning. Granderson homered to right centre in the seventh and Mark Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the seventh to help New York post
a big score on the board.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda produced a match winning performance as he gave up just two runs on seven hits in seven innings to grab his 16th win of the season. Striking-out four batters at regular intervals, he used his fastballs very effectively.
