Boston Red Sox battle past New York Yankees 1-0 – MLB Spring Training
Boston Red Sox’s manager Bobby Valentine looked very pleased after his team secured a thrilling 1-0 win over their arch rivals New York Yankees at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Florida on Tuesday, March 13.
The Red Sox made the most of available opportunities in a competitive Grapefruit League game of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Sessions to improve their win-loss record to 7-2. It was an important win for Red Sox considering all the hype
that was created before the start of the game.
Boston’s ability to handle the pressure without any nerves played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. The Yankees had their chances but they were unable to score any runs, which help their opponent establish grip over the game.
Pedro Ciriaco scored the only run for the Boston. Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia also had one hit each in batting department of the game. Red Sox’s starter Felix Doubront pitched with great control and accuracy as he allowed just two hits over two innings,
striking out three batters.
"It will be more than I expect and probably some of what I felt from the outside," Valentine said. "I've been in both Joe Girardi's office and Tito's office during the rivalry. I've seen their faces. I've heard their voices, so I get that. I've seen the
fans. I've read the newspapers. I've heard the talk shows and the TV casts."
"Baseball at its finest," he added. "I remember the Subway Series, when the commissioner came in and he said this is the showcase of showcases; this is New York against New York playing baseball on our finest stage."
The Yankees have looked completely out of sorts since the start of this spring season. With a poor 5-7 win-loss record, Joe Girardi and his men will be looking to put in great amount of work to turn things around. The Red Sox, on the other hand, will take
a lot of confidence from this win. If Bobby Valentine’s side can continue their good form throughout the season, they will be a force to reckon with.
