Boston Red Sox
battle past Philadelphia Phillies 7-5 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox put up yet another brilliant show as they battled past Philadelphia Phillies 7-5 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 19 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular
season.
Mike Aviles had another memorable night as he homered to left in the first inning to give the Red Sox 1-0 lead. Will Middlebrooks home run in the fourth extended Boston’s lead to 4-1. David Ortiz also made a valiant contribution to put the Red Sox in a commanding
position with a home run in the fifth inning.
"Everything came back good, I'm cleared to play, plus I'm due to hit a bomb," Valentine read the text from catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
"I wanted to make sure he knew I could play," Saltalamacchia said. "Sometimes if you tell the manager you are going to hit one out, he'll put you in there. I felt good. The ear didn't bother or affect me."
"I didn't have my best stuff, but I tried to battle through it and keep the ball down," Lester said.
Bobby Valentine and company are finally showing us what they are capable. Making the most of available opportunities in a tight game against the Phillies, the Red Sox improved their record to 19-21. The Phillies had the better of their rivals in the opening
game as they secured a thrilling 6-4 win to take 1-0 lead in the series.
Considering the Phillies had the home crowd support working their favour, they were the favourites to win the second game and take a decisive 2-0 lead but the Red Sox up their game play just at the right time and they showed some great fighting skills and
mental toughness on Saturday’s evening to keep the series alive.
It will be exciting to see if the Red Sox can put up another solid show in the decisive finale to cheer up their fans and get closer to the .500 win percentage hurdle. Philadelphia, on the other hand, will be looking to execute their game plan to perfection
in the final game to secure an important series win.
