Boston Red Sox beat Baltimore Orioles 5-4 – MLB Spring Training Update
Boston Red Sox defeated Baltimore Orioles 5-4 at the JetBlue Park, Fenway South Lee County Florida, on Tuesday, March 6 in their Grapefruit league encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Sessions. The Red Sox did not show any nerves under pressure to clinch a thrilling victory. The Orioles will be disappointed with the outcome of the game. Showing great determination and dedication, they put up a valiant fight but failed to prevail.
Daniel Bard made a nice start to his 2012 Spring Training campaign, striking out two and walking one. Making the most of his on hand opportunities, he tossed two hitless innings to put his team in the driving seat. The 26 year old has made 192 appearances in three big league seasons as a reliever. It will be interesting to see if he can succeed in the starting rotation. Alfredo Aceves also displayed outstanding throwing skills as he pitched two perfect innings, striking out two batters.
"First, let's say that wasn't (Baltimore's) `A' squad out there and we all know that," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said. "That being said, Daniel's two-seamer was good, his four-steamer was good, he threw four sliders, they all did what he wanted them to do."
"I'm not going to go out and guarantee any great success, but I'm not going to rule it out, either. I can tell you that in my mind I don't see any reason why I can't go out and be as good as anybody on this staff. And we have some really good pitchers," said Bard.
Left hander Dana Eveland gave up one run and two hits on his first Spring Training start for the Orioles. Chris Tillman also struggled to find his line as he conceded three runs and four hits in two innings in his side’s 4-5 loss to the Red Sox. The Orioles looked in great form in their previous Spring Training game. It will be exciting to see if they can raise the level of their game play in their upcoming games. The Red Sox, on the other hand, will be looking to continue their excellent run throughout to build their confidence.
