Boston Red Sox beat Colorado Rockies 5-3 – MLB news
Boston Red Sox posted another sensation performance as they beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, June 26 in the finale of their two match series of the 2013 Major League baseball regular season.
With their win, the Red Sox complete an emphatic series win against their National League opponents. Red Sox secured a huge win in the opener and they continued the good work in Game 2 to improve their record to 47-33. Right now, the Red Sox are placed first
on the American League East Division standings table but things can change pretty quickly in MLB. It will be interesting to see if they can continue their stunning form throughout the season to make it to the playoffs.
Rockies, on the other hand, went below the 0.50 win percentage mark after taking the series loss. It will be interesting to see if they can regroup and bounce back in their next game. Red Sox’s starting pitcher John Lackey continued to impress the critics
as he struck out season high 12 batters in seven solid innings for his fifth win of the season. Overall, the right hander gave up just two runs to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Relief pitcher Koji Uehara pitched the perfect ninth to
save his second game of the year.
"Probably the strongest he's been all year," Boston manager John Farrell said. "Outstanding fastball command, good power to it and a lot of strikes."
"I've been feeling pretty good," Lackey said, often breaking into smiles and joking, a big change from his demeanor in his early days in Boston. "I still feel like I'm getting stronger. It was a process, a lot of work, I'm still building."
"Jon will be fine. Clay has done great. I'm not worried about those guys," he said. "I've been the guy that has gone first in playoff games."
Shane Victorino singled to right in the first inning to put Red Sox on the board. David Ortiz, Daniel Nava and Mike Napoli also made useful contributions with the bat to help their team put a decent total on the board.
