Boston Red Sox beat Detroit Tigers 6-4 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox continued to impressive the critics as they crushed Detroit Tigers 6-4 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, May 30 in the third game of their four match series of the 20123 Major League Baseball.
Jim Leyland’ side took another heavy blow as they lost their third straight game. After the Tigers beat Minnesota Twins 3-0 in a three game series, it seemed they have finally worked out the perfect formula to win games.
However, considering Tigers’ performances in three games against Boston, they will have to work extremely hard on some of the weaker links in their game play to change the course of their destiny.
Delmon Young had a decent time on the plate as he helped the Tigers take 1-0 lead in the first inning. D Worth hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the third and Prince Fielder had an RBI single to put Detroit 3-0 ahead.
Boston staged an impressive comeback in the fourth inning, with David Ortiz’s home run to centre which reduced Tigers’ lead to 3-2. Adrian Gonzalez, Will Middlebrooks and Kevin Youkilis put up a brilliant show to help them end the game on a winning note.
"Keep him in, let him stay in, have (Kevin) Youkilis go to third (from first), I don't know," Valentine said.
"We joke around and say, 'Who's going to play the Little League game and get the six-inning pull?'," said Gonzalez.
"After we tied it up, we got two real quick outs in that inning then they end up getting that run," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "That's tough."
"We knew the second time around what he had already," Middlebrooks said. "He showed us what he had so the second time around we knew what to expect."
Bobby Valentine and company will be very pleased with their performances in all three games of the series. After securing a comfortable 7-4 win in the opening game, the Red Sox outclassed Detroit Tigers completely in the second.
With their win against the Tigers on Wednesday evening, they have now taken a decisive 3-0 lead and it will be interesting to see if they can put up another strong show in the finale to sweep their American League rivals.
